Royal Canin Giant
Royal Canin Giant is for dogs with an adult weight of 45kg and over — Great Danes, Mastiffs, Newfoundlands, St Bernards, Irish Wolfhounds, Leonbergers and the giant crossbreeds. Three products cover the whole life, all in 15kg bags, which is the only practical size once a dog is eating this much.
The part worth understanding is the two-stage puppyhood, which no other Royal Canin size line has. A giant breed spends roughly eighteen to twenty-four months growing, and the demands change partway through. Giant Puppy covers birth to eight months, the phase of fastest weight gain, when digestive capacity is still small relative to appetite. Giant Junior takes over from eight to eighteen months, the long finishing phase where the skeleton consolidates and the priority shifts to keeping the growth rate moderate and supporting joints carrying a lot of load. Giant Adult follows from eighteen months.
Two mistakes to avoid. Do not move a giant-breed puppy onto adult food at twelve months the way you would with a medium dog — it is still growing, and Giant Junior exists precisely for that window. And do not substitute an ordinary puppy food: energy density and mineral levels are the whole point of the distinction, and an over-rich diet during this stage pushes growth faster than the joints can comfortably keep up with. Feed measured meals split across the day rather than leaving food down.
