Terumo is a Japanese medical device manufacturer whose syringes and hypodermic needles are the default on most Australian veterinary and rural shelves. What we stock is the working end of that range: hypodermic needles, syringes in every common tip type, insulin and tuberculin syringes, and an IV catheter. All sterile, all single use, all sold by the box.
Choosing between the tip types is the part that trips people up, and it comes down to how hard you are pushing. A Luer Lock hub screws the needle on and holds it there under pressure — the right choice for thick oily injectables and for animals that move. A Luer Slip hub just pushes on: faster through a mob, and usable needle-free for oral dosing. An eccentric tip sits the nozzle off-centre so the needle can lie flat against the skin for shallow work. A catheter tip is wide and stepped, for tube feeding and flushing, and takes no needle at all.
Needles are sold separately from most syringes. Gauge runs backwards — 20G is thicker than 25G — so match the gauge to the viscosity of what you are giving and the length to the route the label specifies.
Sale and possession of hypodermic needles and syringes is regulated in some Australian states and territories. Buy and use them in line with your local requirements, use a sharps container, and never re-sheath a used needle.
