The tropical tier of Exo Terra's compact UVB range. Exo Terra describes its output as similar to the UVB found in shaded environments such as rain forest, which is what tropical and sub-tropical species evolved under, and rates it as effective up to 40cm (15") from the animal. The limitation people get caught by: this is a fluorescent UVB bulb, so it produces almost no usable heat. It does not replace a basking lamp — you still need a separate heat source to build a thermal gradient.
Two wattages, 13W and 25W, both self-ballasted with a standard screw base. For desert species step up to the Reptile UVB150; for species with very high UV demand or a tall terrarium use the Reptile UVB200. Exo Terra suggests pairing a UVB bulb with the Natural Light or Reptile Vision for visible light. Fit it in a Light Dome or Compact Top; heat comes from something like the Intense Basking Spot. Full range in our Exo Terra collection.
Features
- Tropical UVB spectrum — matched to shaded rain forest conditions rather than open desert sun.
- Effective up to 40cm — Exo Terra's stated working distance; mount closer than this and check the basking site sits within range.
- Supports vitamin D3 synthesis — UVB is what lets a reptile metabolise dietary calcium and avoid metabolic bone disease.
- UVA included — stimulates appetite, activity and reproductive behaviour.
- Self-ballasted screw base — fits any standard socket fixture, no ballast required.
Specifications
13W and 25W. Effective up to 40cm (15"). Compact fluorescent, self-ballasted, screw base. Shipping weights 0.09kg (13W) and 0.14kg (25W). Exo Terra publishes a tropical / desert / very-high-UV tier for this range rather than a UVB output percentage, so we have not quoted one. UV output declines with use — replace yearly even if the bulb still lights.
