Olssons has been pressing mineral blocks in Australia since the 1930s, and the 007 horse block is the one most people know by name. A block is simply the practical way to get minerals into animals that are not on a hard feed - the animal self-regulates and you are not carrying buckets.
Choosing a block
Start with the species, then the season, then the specific deficiency. Species first because it is where the real risk sits: sheep are poisoned by copper levels that cattle need, and goats need copper that sheep cannot tolerate. Use Ewe Beauty for sheep, the Goat Block for goats, and the cattle blocks for cattle.
Season second. Beefmaster and Economag are magnesium blocks for the spring tetany window; the Dry Feed blocks are for summer and autumn stubbles; Herd Health 365 and Ewe Beauty 365 are the year-round options if you would rather not swap.
Urea blocks need care. Several blocks carry urea to help stock digest dry feed. Urea is toxic if eaten too fast, so introduce it to animals that are full rather than hungry, keep water available, and never feed urea products to horses. Urea-free versions of most of them exist for exactly this reason.
Blocks are heavy. Most are 15-20kg of solid pressed mineral and the Weaner Pro is 35kg. Freight on a solid block is unavoidable, so pickup or a combined order is the sensible way to buy them.
