A Jive is a solid rubber ball with lobed sides, and the shape is doing something specific: it will not roll true, so a bounce kicks sideways and the dog has to read it. That alone makes a small backyard feel bigger than it is. Jive is rated for tough chewers and is a sounder choice than a tennis ball, whose felt is abrasive on tooth enamel and whose two-piece shell can be crushed flat and swallowed. Three sizes are stocked — X-Small at 5cm, Small at 6cm, Large at 8cm — in blue, green and orange. If you use a ball thrower, the Small is the one to buy; it is cut to fit a standard launcher and the Large will not seat in one. Jive floats. The caveat: a ball this dense is hard work for a soft-mouthed or elderly dog, and a Zisc or a Bumi is the kinder option there.
