Hole size, syringe feeding and care

Feeding technique varies with the animal, and guidance should be obtained from experienced carers before starting. The teat has no hole: pierce the tip with a hot needle to about 1 mm in diameter, and check that milk drips slowly from an inverted bottle rather than running freely. Very small animals can be fed from a syringe with the teat pulled over the end, which lets the plunger meter the flow. Wash, dry and store away from light.
