Before the first feed

Obtain guidance from experienced carers on correct feeding technique for the animal in your care. The teat is supplied unpierced: a hot needle through the tip makes a hole about 1 mm in diameter, and milk should then drip slowly from an inverted bottle. For a very small animal, pull the teat over the end of a syringe and meter the milk with the plunger. Wash in warm soapy water after use, dry, and store away from light.
